Why Did Rebecca Black Opt For Home Schooling?

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Rebecca Black 14-year-old Friday singer/aspiring pop star has opted to withdraw from her Anaheim Hills, Calif. school in favor of home schooling due to her newfound popularity. My school has a rule that if we have to miss school for entertainment purposes, like for acting or singing, then it counts as like-- you get an unexcused absence, so you dont get credit on your work, Rebecca told Access Hollywood at the Americas Got Talent YouTube results show in Los Angeles on Wednesday when asked why she chose to leave. I was missing a lot of school and faking sick a lot, so it was getting hard. I even had to drop out of a class because I couldnt, you know, be there and so that was really one of the big factors that made us go that way, she continued. While Rebecca (whose amateur music video for Friday has over 27 million hits on YouTube) told Access that her home school switch is due largely in part to the desire for a freer schedule, in an interview that aired on Wednesdays ABCs Primetime Nightline the teen said she was forced out due to constant bullying from her peers. When I walk by theyll start singing Friday in a really nasally voice, she said. Or, you know, theyll be like, Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is? She certainly did not need that kind of pressure, Rebeccas mother, Georgina Marquez added. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc.
