'W.E' Composer Talks Golden Globes, Making Music With Madonna

In speaking about mainstream award shows and also the of a routine of the annual nominees lists, the Golden Globes are frequently the toughest to calculate for the reason that their nominees always incorporate a couple of unpredicted surprises. This season, nobody was possibly more amazed at hearing the 2012 nominations than composer Abel Korzeniowski, who obtained a Best Original Score nomination for his focus on "W./E.," the Madonna-directed romantic drama which has not yet been launched wide in theaters. "Its very difficult whenever a movie isn't in theaters," Korzeniowski told MTV News lately of his disbelief in becoming nominated. "To date weve had just the being approved run that was one theater in La so very little you seen the film. It had been more surprising because we now have no advertisements anywhere, this is not on the web, not in newspapers and so i thought it wouldnt be possible." In a nutshell: "It is a large surprise." The Polish composer, whose newest work was the score for "Just One Guy," continued to express that becoming associated with "W./E." to begin with was a level bigger surprise. "Eventually I acquired a phone call that Madonna desired to get in touch and that i just couldnt accept is as true. 'What would you mean Madonna? The Madonna?' She desired to send us a script and that i first got it as well as in the script itself there have been already references to my music," he remembered. "It was really flattering. More often than not after our initial conferences we needed to work on the telephone, which isn't ideal situation but a minimum of whenever we spoke on the telephone she could sing just a little in my experience that was really thrilling, should you consider it. Madonna is singing my music on the telephone and hearing this and she or he does not need auto tune, it had been just great." Korzeniowski described this particular scoring experience, that he employed a 60-piece orchestra as well as other piano, violin, cello and viola solos, along with the properly anachronistic inclusion of the Sex Guns song, was unique for the reason that Madonna travelled to La to utilize him at his studio and that he composed music around the place. "It was a very great adventure because essentially I needed to compose getting her behind my back. It had been a really demanding situation because its unusual. Considerable time it is not this kind of immediate process, but simultaneously it had been really thrilling also it labored well. Probably the most surprising factor about dealing with Madonna? Well, the tempo of labor. The 4 several weeks we labored together felt such as the final stage associated with a other movie, happens where everything accelerates and you've got to operate for your maximum ability. I loved it, shes this type of perfectionist and she or he likes you every little detail, the way it affects the storyline and i believe it was the greatest thrill and challenge." Does Korzeniowski's Globe nomination perhaps you have curious to determine "W./E." if this hits theaters Feb 3, 2012? Inform us within the comments or on Twitter!

Ben Affleck Looks Shaggy In 'Argo' Still

Ben Affleck's a man of action now, isn't he? A few years ago, his career relegated him to romcom barf fests like "Gigli" and "Surviving Christmas." Not anymore -- he's built up plenty of critical momentum and box office success through gritty dramas like "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town," enough to allow him to take on more heady roles, like next year's "Argo." That's the one where he's a CIA operative posing as a member of a film crew in order to rescue diplomats who've been taken hostage, all in 1979 Tehran. The movie they're pretending to work on? Naturally, it's a sci-fi film called "Argo." This first photo shows him looking a little shaggy, a little determined; definitely not the clean-cut wise guy he earned his early career heartthrob status through. He's looking very deliberately at some documents, but we've got no idea what they might be. Maybe it's a Denny's menu. Maybe there's a comic book behind it. (Probably not.) "Argo" also features other actors who've seen career revivals in recent years, lifers like Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Kyle Chandler. With that much pure acting power, it seems like "Argo" will be well worth paying attention to when it comes out next year. Affleck also directs the film, and if you remember his strong eye for layout and action in "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town," you'll recognize it as a solid choice. What do you think of this first still from "Argo"? Let us know in the comments section and on Twitter!

"I believe Brendan is simpler to get at, the thing is his family the thing is where he's. The thing is his troubles, the thing is everything. Tommy could be misinterpreted because this brooding, angry-at-the-world guy the very surfacey way the smoothness might have been written." Hernandez continues to praise O'Connor and the writing team for drawing the reveal of Tommy's character's complex arc, it completely allures the crowd. "It begins clicking, 'Wow this person was much more psychologically broken, whatever happened happened a great deal worse to him of computer did to Brendan," he stated. 'X-Men: First Class' Powers Up To MTV's #6 Movie Of 2011

I'd say 2011 was the year of the superhero if 2012 wasn't also set to gift us with a staggering array of caped and non-caped crusaders. Let's just say the last 12 months have delivered the world, to varying degrees of success, "The Green Hornet," "Green Lantern," "Captain America: The First Avenger," and "Thor." The best of the bunch, however, is without a doubt "X-Men: First Class." What separates the mutants from their comic-book brethren is not story or visual effects or dope fight sequences though "X-Men" has all of those things in spades but something much rarer in this genre: characters you actually care about. And so we honor "X-Men: First Class" as our #6 pick in MTV's Best of 2011 Movies list. Listen, I enjoyed "Thor" but never for a second did I buy the love story between the God of Thunder and Natalie Portman's earthy scientist. Though "Green Hornet" was a hoot, I never felt invested in Seth Rogen's bad-boy-gone-good arc. "X-Men," by contrast, gave us a level of character development you simply don't see often in superhero flicks, regardless of the year. Magneto's (Michael Fassbender) path from Holocaust survivor to conflicted hero to cynical villain just slayed me. I rooted for him at every turn, first when he embarked on a mission of vengeance and then, when he turned toward the dark side, I kept hoping he'd reconsider even as I knew he would not. Fassbender rules, full spot. Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) all of them had fully fleshed-out character arcs; every one was absorbing. These mutants were human, all too human. So, um, yeah: characters! "X-Men" has a lot more going for it, too. The retro '60s setting imbued the entire story with the weight of history. The score effing rocked. And, at long last after the calamity that was "X-Men: The Last Stand," we had a Marvel mutant movie we could all be psyched about again. It arrived in a year that had us pretty psyched about what was going on at the multiplex. "X-Men" joins "The Muppets," (#7) "50/50" (#8), "The Descendants" (#9) and "Attack the Block" (#10) on our Best of 2011 list. The full list including MTV's pick for the best movie of the year will be announced during a live stream at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday (December 16). Related: #10 Movie of the Year: "Attack the Block" #9 Movie of the Year: "The Descendants" #8 Movie of the Year: "50/50" #7 Movie of the Year: "The Muppets" All this week, watch "AMTV" on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our Best of 2011 lists. The editors of "J. Edgar" say Clint Eastwood's decisive approach to filmmaking makes every project feel fresh -- despite 36 years together. Joel Cox states Eastwood's belief in getting belief inside a person's stomach and letting the film find itself allows for creative freedom and brings energy in every single project."There's something relating to your first instinct if you see something you possess just like a memory," Cox states. Happy 54th Birthday, Steve Buscemi! What's His Most Underrated Screen Moment?

Correct me basically’m wrong, but It’s reliable advice that Steve Buscemi is among the most globally loved stars of the generation. He vivified Fargo, gave Ghost World a soul, given Large Seafood some cool truthfulness, ruled on 30 Rock (and Boardwalk Empire, I guess), as well as demonstrated themself a viable proxy for Paul Lynde because the voice of Templeton within the Charlotte now’s Web remake. That’s no easy sneer to fill. However nowadays we’re speaking about Buscemi’s underrated work, the items that doesn’t percolate using the harsh vigor of the Coen Siblings classic. What’s your pick? Bald eagle-eyed visitors will observe that I toasted Buscemi’s uncredited role as Danny McGrath in Billy Madison throughout Bad Movies We Like lately, however it’s too goddamn funny to not revisit here. As Billy (Adam Sandler) makes amends using the kids he tortured in senior high school, he finds that onetime loser Danny McGrath appears inexplicably well-modified. It’s another story once Billy dangles in the receiver, though, and that we watch as Danny’s true character gurgles up in the netherworld. So, so strange and thus unassailable in the gall. I laugh each and every time only at that clip. What’s Buscemi’s most underrated moment? Individuals who disagree beside me will have to skip recess and apply glue to overlook Lippy’s face.

Let James Franco Explain The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn To You

“For a film that claims to be sexually responsible, the Twilight movies are awfully dependent on teenage sex to attract viewers,” James Franco, actor/director/writer/student and now film critic, reveals in his write-up of Breaking Dawn - Part 1 in the Paris Review. “The actors prance about like pieces of meat, their disturbingly developed bodies on full display; Taylor Lautner’s rippling teenage chest is just a little better than the child beauty-pageant stars at the end of Little Miss Sunshine.” For Franco’s complete thoughts on Team Jacob vs. Team Edward and Bella’s nightmare pregnancy, click here. 'Cats and Dogs' Director Joins Canine Comedy at Gold Circle Films (Exclusive)

Paramount's Young Adult stars Charlize Theron as a not-so-grown-up grown up, Mavis, who writes YA novels. Soon after her divorce, she returns to her hometown on a desperate mission to rekindle a romance with her high school boyfriend Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson), who is now a married man.our editor recommendsYoung Adult: Film ReviewNew Movie Reviews: 'New Year's Eve,' 'Young Adult,' Madonna's 'W.E.' Hitting Theaters Charlize Theron on Playing a 'Bitch' in 'Young Adult' (Video)THR's Awards Season Roundtable Series 2011: The Actresses Mavis also runs into Matt Freehauf (Patton Oswalt), a former high school classmate who was bullied back in the days of high school. PHOTOS: 'Young Adult' Premiere Red Carpet Arrivals The Paramount film reunites Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody, who were behind the smart comedy Juno. While the main character in that film was wise beyond her teen years, their current protagonist is in desperate need of gaining a few mental years to match her age. Critics received the film mostly positively, especially praising the work of Theron as Mavis and Oswalt as Matt. Many wrote that while the film is hard to watch with its blunt and often harsh humor, it's well worth seeing. "On a scene-by-scene basis, Young Adult entirely engages with its smart exchanges between characters who are well equipped with rough edges and raw nerves," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy. FILM REVIEW: Young Adult McCarthy went on to praise the performances of Theron and Oswalt, but added that the plot has a very short arc. "The result is an impression of vibrant character sketches rather than of full-bodied drama with depth and complexity, of two characters, specifically, who could easily warrant far more extensive treatment, so acutely and specifically drawn are they," wrote McCarthy. "Shorter than a bad blind date and as sour as a vinegar Popsicle, Young Adult shrouds its brilliant, brave and breathtakingly cynical heart in the superficial blandness of commercial comedy," wrote The NY Times' A.O. Scott. "Theron and Oswalt turn out to be a terrific odd couple," wrote Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times. "Not easy because Cody's screenplay calls for, and Reitman demands, that they both reveal a great deal, and a great deal of what they reveal is exceedingly ugly." "There is a brashness of style that both Cody and Reitman embody - almost demanding that we not only laugh at, but like the unlikable side of the human condition. That sort of bravado is fine if you've got the goods to back it up. In the cutting edginess of Theron and Oswalt, they definitely do," added Sharkey. VIDEO: THR's Awards Season Roundtable Series 2011 With The Actresses "Reitman and Cody have made a big studio prestige picture that provides a realistic look at the darkest impulses of an unlikable character," wrote The Atlantic's Robert Levin. "It trades in discomfort and unease, not catharsis. That's an achievement worthy of admiration, if you can endure it," wrote Levin. "By turns amusing and annoying, Young Adult could be the flip side, plus the sequel, of Juno, another film written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman," wrote Richard Corliss of Time. "In a thorny role, Theron is splendid; she instinctively reveals everything Mavis doesn't know about herself and offers an intimate peek into a wayward soul," added Corliss. REVIEW: New Year's Eve might be the film Just like a Plastic-Wrapped American Cheese Slice

That are these beautiful, significantly fitted, slightly orange people gliding so easily using a twinkling, postcard-worthy version of NY in Year’s Eve? They’re stars, clearly, a world of stars of various luminescence. Year’s Eve is Garry Marshall’s follow-around a year ago’s Valentine’s Day, they also directed, and such as this film it uses its titular holiday just like a callous star delivery system in which a menagerie of come up with stars sprints through an amount of interconnected narrative threads that rapidly accelerate from alleged comedy to syrupy sentimentality. You’re unlikely to determine anybody in Year’s Eve get drunk, hug their married boss, vomit after which it barricade themselves inside the bathroom to take a position the comfort in the evening crying, no mister. Happy being abound for everyone here, the crictally ill as well as the lady who dares to use clogs. Clogs! (Fetching ones with shearling trim and four-inch heels, but whatever — burn her!) To see the storyline lines in Year’s Eve are absurd and virulently cliched seems close to the point, or simply trivial. These figures are very nominal that whenever, say, Jum Michele will find yourself in trouble inside an elevator with Ashton Kutcher, that’s precisely how you consider the set-up, then when the entrance doors finally open you half expect those to scurry away and off to the groups of Glee and two and a half Males, where they could be contractually punished for tardiness. But regarding using the entire scope from the film, here’s a bullet point summary of many goings-on: · The V . p . in the Occasions Square Alliance (Hilary Swank) and her faithful police minion (Ludacris) prepare for the Midtown celebration and operate a crisis when the ball will find yourself in trouble half way up, a technical snag that requires the getting by legendary ambiguously ethnic domestic electrician Kominsky (Hector Elizondo). · An uptight catering company (Katherine Heigl, natch) works a gathering where her famous rock-star ex Jensen (Jon Bon Jovi) is playing, while her sous chef (Sofa Vergara, turning her enjoyable Modern Family shtick around intolerable levels) looks on. · A young pregnant couple (Jessica Biel and Seth Meyers) race another couple (Sarah Paulson and Til Schweiger) to offer the first baby of year and win a $25,000 prize. · A dying guy (Robert P Niro) just desires to start to see the ball drop any time, nevertheless the mean hospital won’t permit him to. His nurse (Halle Berry) keeps him company. · A dowdy secretary (Michelle Pfeiffer) utilizes a free of charge-spirited bike messenger (Zac Efron) to help her fulfill 10 years’s cost of the year’s resolutions in one day. · An uptight costume designer (Nicole Kidman, natch) doesn’t want her teen daughter (Abigail Breslin) to go to Occasions Square. · An professional (Josh Duhamel) hitches a ride getting a wild family to have the ability to go back to his company party with time to produce a speech and rendezvous getting a mysterious lady he met a year ago. · And, as stated, and Jum Michele go mad a good start and fall in lurve. I would have forgotten a few. Yeardley Cruz, John Lithgow, Carla Gugino, James Belushi, Cary Elwes, Cherry Manley, Matthew Broderick while others make looks too, and Ryan Seacrest plays themselves, since he was most most likely there anyway — the film somewhat awkwardly folds in footage from a year ago’s Occasions Square celebration, getting a An Online Detective: A Game Title Title of Shadows (furthermore a Warner Bros. release!) billboard plainly grafted in. Less a film when compared to a product, Year’s Eve is actually carefully calculated they may be, within the own way, admirable. It’s innocuous enough to aid families, otherwise young children. It provides a wide enough choice of talent available that both your grandmother along with your tween niece should see someone they recognize. It’s inoffensive unless of course obviously you’re delay through the truth that certain in the moms-to-be want to plan a pointless C-section to have the ability to compete for prize money (“May the most effective vajayjay win!” = actual kind of dialogue), that both Vietnam and Iraq are unabashedly labored in, or with the film’s overall soullessness. There’s no intentional laugh found, though within the screening I attended there has been guffaws in just a minute together with a personality gasping “Wait! In the event you’re here, who’s sometimes Square?” as well as the demonstrate that adopted. Next, I’d imagine, will in all probability be Christmas, though I wouldn’t put it past Thanksgiving to sneak available online for, trained with’s been under 10 years since Love Really there’s no hurry — new, less costly stars are minted each day. Within the intervening time, it’s worth pondering the outtakes running inside the closing credits which will be the phoniest factor relating to this insincere endeavor, striving use a classic-fashioned illusion the film will be a happy group endeavor through which everyone had an enjoyable experience together as opposed to a staggered shoot through which people travelled looking for a reliable day or two on set prior to going for his or her next gig. That is business, folks, difficult — everyone might take a cupful of kindness when the box office grosses roll in. Follow Alison Willmore on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Rings Producer Waits For Last Year

New Philip K. Dick adaptation announcedThe Total Recall remake is almost upon us; Ridley Scott is developing some sort of new Blade Runner; the BBC are buildingThe Man In The High Castle; Disney are prepping King Of The Elves; and most excitingly of all, Michel Gondry is at work on Ubik. But there's now yet another adaptation of Philip K. Dick's work in the pipeline, with Dick's daughter Isa Dick Hackett and Lord Of The Rings producer Barrie M. Osborne putting together a package based on the 1966 novel Now Wait For Last Year.In a nutshell far too small for the job, Now Wait For Last Year is about an organ transplant doctor, Eric Sweetscent, who gets involved in interstellar politics between Earth and the inhabitants of the planet Lilistar, who are at war with another alien society called The Reegs. Earth has been supporting Lilistar, but it soon becomes clear that we're on the wrong side.Along the way the novel introduces us to Sweetscent's accidentally time-travelling wife, addicted to a mad hallucinogenic drug, and employed by Lilistar to spy on her husband. Then there's 'The Mole', who absorbs the illnesses of anyone he's standing near, but can handle it because he's immortal. There's a company that makes synthetic furs using a type of alien amoeba. And there's a philosophically argumentative taxi cab that has an important role to play in the proceedings.Typically crazy Dick material, in other words, which should benefit greatly from Hackett's policy of developing projects fully before they're taken out to studios. "When the script's written we'll take it out and figure out who wants to make that story", she explained of Ubik in the summer, "as opposed to doing development with a studio and having them tell us what story we're going to tell. For me, the biggest failure would be a film that was just devoid of the real message from the material."Osborne and Hackett will produce through Hackett's Electric Shepherd production company, in conjunction with Cameron Lamb and his Lila 9th banner, which is behind Daydream Nation and the upcoming Syrup. Ted Kupper (who according to the two IMDb possibilities either has a background in sound or animation, unless he's another Ted Kupper entirely) is writing the screenplay. Hackett and her cohorts are currently looking for a director, for a projected shoot towards the end of 2012. Which means we must now wait for next year.Incidentally, Michael Sheen presented rather a good programme about Philip K. Dick on Radio 4 yesterday...

Emily Browning on Sleeping Beauty, Which makes it through Sucker Punch as well as the Pleasures of Torching Money

Emily Browning, the Australian actress most broadly noted for Hollywood efforts Lemony Snicket’s Quantity of Unfortunate Occasions which year’s Sucker Punch, hits the art house let's focus on different things: Sleeping Beauty, author-director Julia Leigh’s disturbing join in towards the whole world of somnambulistic sex work. Browning stars as Lucy, a disaffected college student scraping by on odd jobs before happening upon a madam (Rachael Blake) who supplies youthful women for many high-class patrons. Inside the most extreme from the situations, Lucy is essentially anesthetized and placed nude in bed mattress, creating a succession of outre encounters that have left audiences shocked, appalled, intrigued, breathless, running the theater and/or a number of blends of every. I sitting lower with Browning within the recent Hamptons Worldwide Film Festival for just about any freewheeling discuss in regards to the film, her role, her routine, her festival encounters, as well as the odd conceptual final results of Sleeping Beauty as well as the a more compact amount admirably received Sucker Punch. [Advisory: Spoilers follow] This is often a polarizing film, understandably. What kinds of conversations possibly you've experienced or personally had with people relevant for this since Cannes? In my opinion if this involves people speaking with myself relating to this, their reactions are actually positive. A guy who was simply just ending up in me mentioned a reaction that we’ve become a good deal, that people that can match, that's, “When Initially when i first first seen it, I wasn’t sure. I didn’t know how I felt relating to this it assisted me uncomfortable. Nevertheless it associated with me, now I love it.” Which I really like that reaction. In my opinion that’s great, which’s that which you want. It’s so strange once i execute a Q&A, and somebody asks an problem and so they begin it with, “I loved the film!” I’m like, “You loved it?” That’s kind of an unusual response. I realize. “Already?” Yeah! I'm speaking about , initially initially when i first first seen it, I used to be pleased with it, plus it labored just like I desired it to. Nevertheless the automatic response “I enjoy it”? I kind of such as this people need to contemplate it. And apparently it’s associated with people, that's great. It’s all I really could request. The thing that was your individual reaction the first time you saw the film? Well, I used to be made to notice the first time at Cannes. I mentioned to my publicist while others, “I can’t take action. I must notice before them, because I'd distribute.” It absolutely was most likely probably the most nerve-wracking experience. To ensure that they offered us a copy, which i seen it in bed mattress getting a bottle of vodka by myself because I used to be so nervous. However actually was happy with it, plus it’s so rare will be able to believe of a film. In my opinion frequently stuff that I’ve done are actually muddled with, which i only decided to be really happy — so happy that we seen again the very next day, sober. Which was good. But yeah. It assisted me have the actual way it’s made to get individuals to feel, that's uncomfortable along with a little squeamish. It absolutely was a few things i wanted to ensure that it's. Then watching it at Cannes will be a different experience — while using huge screen, thinking, “Wow, I’m this giant naked person, and you'll find thousands of people searching at me.” It changes it just a little. So at Cannes I used to be sweating abundantly and gripping onto Julia’s hands and kind of shaking a little. I picture Julia propositioning you much the means by which Clara propositions Lucy: “This will probably be challenge, but it'll be lucrative. Be smart along with your reward.” How perhaps you have two showed up at terms relating to this role and where it could go? Someone said the script, plus it’s among m favorite scripts that we’ve ever read. Julia is certainly a fantastic author. Furthermore, it assisted me sense uncomfortable, but that was type of the draw personally. I love the idea to behave challenging. I used to be in Canada in those days filming another factor, which i put myself on tape. I'm speaking about, as soon as Someone said it, I used to be like, “I have to do it.” A few people informed me off, saying, “Are you sure? It’s really intense. Are you currently certain?” However understood that we preferred to get familiar with it, therefore i put a really extended audition on tape and sent it in. Which I had been really offered the part before I met Julia, which i needed. I merely felt it might be something appropriate for me personally. However once i met her, she mentioned, “If there’s anything you’re uncomfortable with, we could put it back just a little. We could fix things, we could change this or we could change this…” It wasn’t lots of a “proposition.” Which we'd two solid days to coach, and Julia provided films to check out. We spoke about Lucy’s physicality and her back story. We worked out every scene thorough and spoke relating to this a good deal, and then we had lots of time to arrange and acquire the level of smoothness together. Acting within your sleep— That’s a powerful way to put it, really! “I can act throughout my sleep.” [Laughs] '! Sorry: Acting just like you’re asleep remains acting. What’s the technical underpinning of people moments? It’s interesting, specifically the man 2 scene, where I’m being screwed around with. It’s hard to not wince and distance themselves which kind of factor. In the beginning, Julia suggested that we learn to meditate. To make sure that’s a few things i did — just kind of focusing on my small breathing, which i'd words I used to be saying throughout my thoughts. It absolutely was nearly being as still as you can. But with techniques, doing people kinds of nude moments that are really intense, it absolutely was really kind of simpler that we was asleep. I used to be a clear canvas in people moments I possibly could shut other things out and not really appear. It absolutely was kind of nice with techniques. It’s a stealthily physical role. I'm speaking about, something such as Sucker Punch is physical, but that is physical — requiring a next phase of remedies for that body’s natural instincts. Perhaps you have view it by doing this? Before I started filming, I did so something referred to as Alexander Technique. Do you realize the Alexander Technique? I’m afraid not. In my opinion lots of people take action at drama school — a particular approach to discovering how you can contain the body inside a couple of ways. Learning how to walk with an above average posture. It’s very difficult to describe, really — this movement-therapy kind of factor. In my opinion that really aided it got me into getting a chance to possess my figure and possess full control, because generally I’m pretty clumsy. Therefore it was vital will be able to do that. In addition to, once i was practicing with Julia, we labored a good deal round the physicality. I have got a inclination to hunch and obtain into myself just a little because I’m nervous most of the time, which i desired to learn to just eliminate might move like someone different. Furthermore, it stood a lot associated with… See, I’m from Melbourne, which we shot the film in Sydney, as well as the eight days that we was there, I used to be living alone in the actual ocean at Bondi Beach. I'd awaken every single day and frolic in the water inside the ocean by myself — at 5 every morning, just before the sun's rays emerged because I wasn’t able to find a tan. Therefore I experienced this strange, very quiet headspace that maybe offered us a better understanding of this character — to be really still.
